CELEBRATING 25 YEARS: Smuin’s 2018/19 Season
For 25 years, we’ve presented groundbreaking performances and an experience of dance that is entertaining, evocative, and original. This season, we are delighted to revisit several beloved Michael Smuin favorites and look to the future with a dynamic world premiere from Amy Seiwert and works created by dancers in the company.
Dance Series 01
Smuin’s season opener offers a mixed repertory program featuring Trey McIntyre’s Blue Until June, a sultry tribute to the legendary music of Etta James. Revisit Michael Smuin’s final creation, Schubert Scherzo, and his beloved 1969 masterpiece, The Eternal Idol (a tribute to Rodin). Get a glimpse of the future of contemporary ballet with three new works from Company dancers Nicole Haskins, Ben Needham-Wood, and former Company dancer Rex Wheeler.
The Christmas Ballet
Light up your holidays with Smuin’s beloved yuletide tradition. From classical to cool and contemporary, Smuin’s The Christmas Ballet offers two acts filled with a stunning and original array of ballet, tap, and jazz. This year’s edition features new pieces alongside Smuin favorites. Spark your holiday season with a joyous celebration of dance and a true wintertime classic!
Dance Series 02
Smuin presents a mixed bill for Dance Series 02, returning to Smuin’s roots with highlights from Michael Smuin’s vast creative archive. Fall in love all over again with classic numbers like “Unforgettable” and “Fever” from Dances with Songs, and excerpts from Dancin’ with Gershwin, Zorro! and Frankie & Johnny. Amy Seiwert, one of Smuin’s most illustrious alumni, presents a world premiere to close our 25th Anniversary season.
