[The Best of Smuin] defines the troupe’s endearing blend of sumptuous choreography and vibrant personality.

Randy McMullen, The Mercury News

Like the man himself, The Best of Smuin pours it on. The dancing was often delicious, a box of sweets… that almost dared the watcher not to dig in and find something to savor.

About the Program

After ten years as Smuin’s Choreographer in Residence, master dance maker and new artistic director of Sacramento Ballet Amy Seiwert returns with a thrilling world premiere titled Renaissance. Set to the music of Oakland-based group Kitka, a women’s a cappella vocal ensemble, Seiwert’s Renaissance explores music from Eastern European traditions as it honors the strength of community and women standing together.

Also on the bill is The Best of Smuin, featuring the return of timeless Michael Smuin favorites such as “Unforgettable,” “Georgia,” and the red-hot chair solo “Fever” from Smuin’s inaugural program Dances With Songs. Along with highlights from Carmina Burana, Dancin’ With Gershwin, and Frankie and Johnny, this showcase of classics is packed with the ol’ razzle-dazzle, visually stunning effects, and twists that are Smuin’s trademarks.
