Holiday Dance Program: The Christmas Ballet
Smuin Ballet lights up the holidays with its annual yuletide treat, The Christmas Ballet, sure to please both the naughty and nice. Dazzling audiences for more than 20 years, this enormously popular holiday celebration offers something for everyone, from ballet, tap, and swing to a wealth of other genres drawn from holiday traditions from around the world.
The first act, Classical Christmas, features white-clad dancers performing holiday favorites including Michael Smuin’s “The Gloucestershire Wassail” and “Ave Maria.” The Cool Christmas second act features a red-hot costume change, with dancers performing a modern mash-up of numbers including “White Christmas,” a flirty “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” and the iconic “Santa Baby.” This year’s festivities will feature two new works that promise to enchant and envelop audiences in the holiday spirit. Smuin Ballet dancer Nicole Haskins will debut a new work in the first act set to the jubilant “Joy to the World.” Choreographer-in-Residence Amy Seiwert will present a new piece in the second act set to the classic “Home for the Holidays.”
