Smuin Ballet: A Glance at Dance!
Who hasn’t seen a youngster mimicking popular dance moves or a toddler wiggling in time to a nursery rhyme? Children are inherently rhythmic and musical beings. However, many youth have never experienced a live dance performance. Smuin Ballet is working to change this through our new education program, A Glance at Dance!
A Glance at Dance – which was actually named by two middle school students – provides special one-hour live dance performances for students at local schools. It is held at the theaters where Smuin Ballet presents its performances, and each show is specifically tailored to the age group in attendance. Performances are narrated by Smuin Ballet’s own Ballet Master and are accompanied by fun activities and a question-and-answer session with the Smuin Ballet dancers.
Teachers will receive instructional materials prior to attending A Glance at Dance in order to provide some background to students. Program participation is free, and scholarships may be available to help cover transportation costs.
