Smuin Ballet’s 2007 Fall / Winter Program will feature the return of Michael Smuin’s iconic STABAT MATER – a response to 9/11 – choreographed to the music of Antonin Dvorak. DUETTINO, not seen since Michael choreographed it fo SF Ballet dancers Diana Weber and David McNaughton, is a virtuoso pas de deux set to opera selections by Giuseppi Verdi. Guest choreographer Kirk Peterson (The Eyes That Gently Touch) returns with the West Coast Premiere of his whimsical “Smuin-esque” ballet, REININ’ IN THE HURRICANE, set to the country music of singers Johnny Cash, Gene Autry, k.d. lang and more. Peterson was most recently Artistic Director of the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company and was the innovative Artistic Director of Hartford Ballet for five years. Also featured will be the World Premiere of OBJECTS OF CURIOSITY by Amy Seiwert. As a Smuin Protégé Program resident choreographer, Ms. Seiwert continues exploring the language of classicism, its eloquence, power and possibilities. Seiwert, was recently named one of “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine. Last season her FALLING UP proved a major hit for fans of Smuin Ballet.
