Shinju
Protégé Program premiere – Amy Seiwert, choreographer
Rhythm reigns supreme in Michael Smuin’s first world premiere of the season, Obrigado, Brazil. Set to vibrant South American music by Yo-Yo Ma and an all-star ensemble of Brazilian musicians, it’s an exotic journey through classical, samba and bossa nova beats. Michael’s ballet, Shinju, is based on an 18-th century Japanese play about a centuries-old legend of two star-crossed lovers. Michael is also proud to present a world premiere work by one of Smuin Ballet’s Protégé Program artists, critically-acclaimed Amy Seiwert, a dancer with own choreographic style, vision and talent.
