Smuin Ballet has been busy connecting with communities across the Bay Area, which included additional performances at special events and educational outreach.
We were thrilled to be featured at San Francisco’s Union Square Ice Rink Opening Ceremony “Icebreaker” on November 5th where we performed some favorites from the “Cool Christmas” section of Michael Smuin’s treasured holiday spectacular, “Winter Weather” and “Blue Christmas.”
Smuin Ballet also partnered with Chamberdance’s educational outreach, which involved co-hosting two open studio rehearsals and Q&A sessions on November 7 & 14 with elementary students from the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy.
We received some charming Thank You notes from the students – “Dear Smuin Ballet, we feel so lucky to have watched you dance!”
“Thank you for allowing us to watch you practice. I enjoyed when the boys lifted the girls.”
In addition, Smuin Ballet performed an excerpt from Garrett Ammon’s “Serenade for Strings” on November 18th at the 2014 DanceFAR benefit at the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts. We were delighted to take the stage with other Bay Area and international dance companies to do our part in helping to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Prevention Institute of California and the UCSF Melanoma Center.
Once again, we had the pleasure of performing a matinee performance of the entire Act Two of The Christmas Ballet, Uncorked! as part of the Diablo Regional Arts Association’s Arts Access School Time Outreach Program on November 21st at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.
The season continues to be lively with performances in Mountain View, December 12th – 14th and San Francisco from December 18th – December 27th. Please don’t forget we will be accepting donations for the SF-Marin Food Bank December 18-24 during the run of The Christmas Ballet at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts!
